OSHKI-WENJACK’s Indigenous Birthworker—Postpartum Micro-Credential course offers flexible online learning, allowing participants to study from their communities. The curriculum covers the essential role of Indigenous Birthworkers, including pregnancy philosophies, prenatal support, and mental health. Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwe) language training is also integrated to facilitate communication within Indigenous communities.

In this course, participants will delve into Indigenous philosophies surrounding birth, newborn care, and the postpartum period. Insights into the post-birth experience and recovery trajectory will be provided, along with strategies to support the parent after childbirth, fostering bonding, and mastering infant care techniques, particularly focusing on breast/chestfeeding. Participants will also learn about postpartum mental health considerations and practical guidance for initiating a Birthworker business. Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwe) language training is included to facilitate effective communication with birthing parents and their families.

Getting funding for this program?
Contact your First Nation community funding agency to confirm deadlines for funding applications and apply for funding. Your application may only be considered if your application is received on time.
Oshki-Wenjack is not responsible for submitting your funding applications, but staff can support you in completing them. You may also wish to apply to OSAP for loans and grants. In addition, Oshki-Wenjack’s Financial Aid Officer (financial-aid@oshki.ca) is available to assist you with OSAP applications and to help you research and apply for scholarships and bursaries.
Once it arrives, send your confirmed sponsorship letter to admissions@oshki.ca. You can register for your classes once the Sponsorship Letter is received.
