The Indigenous Birthworker-Pregnancy Micro-Credential course emphasizes Indigenous traditions surrounding pregnancy and the roles of birthworkers. It covers Indigenous philosophies, the creation of birthing plans, and comprehensive support for parents and families, addressing common pregnancy challenges. This course includes Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwe) language training for effective communication.

OSHKI-WENJACK’s Indigenous Birthworker—Pregnancy Micro-Credential Course offers flexible online learning, enabling participants to remain in their communities while pursuing certification. The curriculum focuses on the crucial role of Indigenous Birthworkers, covering topics such as pregnancy philosophies, prenatal support, and mental health. Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwe) language training is integrated to enhance communication within Indigenous communities.

This Indigenous Birthworker course will prepare learners at the community level with the knowledge and skills to provide culturally appropriate education and support to Indigenous persons and families during pregnancy.

Getting funding for this program?
Contact your First Nation community funding agency to confirm deadlines for funding applications and apply for funding. Your application may only be considered if your application is received on time.
Oshki-Wenjack is not responsible for submitting your funding applications, but staff can support you in completing them. You may also wish to apply to OSAP for loans and grants. In addition, Oshki-Wenjack’s Financial Aid Officer (financial-aid@oshki.ca) is available to assist you with OSAP applications and to help you research and apply for scholarships and bursaries.
Once it arrives, send your confirmed sponsorship letter to admissions@oshki.ca. You can register for your classes once the Sponsorship Letter is received.
